Crynodeb
The gambling team is responsible for gambling policy in Great Britain, including regulatory policy for the online and land-based sectors, and consumer protection policy. The team’s current focus is on implementing the Gambling Act Review, including delivering secondary legislation on online slots stakes, reforms to land-based gambling regulation and the creation of a levy on operators to fund research, prevention and treatment. The team works closely with the Gambling Commission, the independent regulator which is an arm’s length body of DCMS, and with external gambling stakeholders.
Gambling is a high profile policy area and you will lead your part of the team to provide objective advice to ministers and support them in fulfilling their parliamentary obligations. You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including other government departments, the gambling industry and civil society bodies to achieve DCMS and the government’s objectives.
Specific responsibilities. You will:
- Become a policy expert in gambling, helping to deliver new and ongoing policy interventions and scoping out future policy issues and keeping abreast of emerging issues.
- Grapple with complex issues in gambling regulation, and contribute to the formulation of innovative policy responses to help successfully deliver regulatory reform.
- Work closely with a variety of stakeholders including other government departments, the Gambling Commission, third sector bodies, academics, trade associations and gambling operators.
- Provide clear, accurate and sometimes urgent advice to ministers and senior officials, as well as briefing them for meetings and debates on gambling policy.
- Respond to parliamentary questions and correspondence, giving expert support to our dedicated correspondence teams.
