Crynodeb

The successful candidate will hold a key role in TV team, which has responsibility for public service broadcasting, the regulation of TV content and considers how to support the whole TV ecosystem.

The TV Policy team sits within the wider Media and International Directorate (MINT) which covers a broad range of work on sectors including: TV, radio, press, and advertising; as well as having a key role leading the department’s international work.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive and respectful team environment, with ample opportunities to get involved in corporate work such as our social committee and staff networks. Our staff survey scores show positive engagement in all areas, with a high level of interest in our work.

The growth of social media is leading to the public consuming more news online. Evidence suggests there is a negative correlation between social media use and trust in news media, and that people who most often get their news from social media tend to be more polarised, less well informed and less trusting of democratic institutions than those who get their news from more broadcast and press sources.

This team is responsible for developing the government response in a new and complex area of policy development, which will require balancing competing objectives and identifying levers where DCMS can have impact.

The role is likely to include elements of the following:

  • Develop a strategy to address media and trust, working collaborating across DCMS, DSIT and Ofcom, to ensure a joined up approach.
  • Develop specific policy initiatives to address media and trust, taking them through the full policy making cycle from scoping to options, and then implementation.
  • Undertake research and analysis to improve the evidence base on media and trust, working closely with analysts and stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement with stakeholders on media and trust, and identify opportunities to build a cohesive public narrative on this issue.
