Nether Currie Primary School is a non-denominational primary school in the South-West of the city of Edinburgh. We have a current roll of 186 children, from Primary 1 to Primary 7. In August 2022, Nether Currie Primary Early Learning and Childcare opened for children aged 3 and 4 years old and has become an integral part of our school family.

Our vision and values were finalised during session 2020-2021, and as a whole school community we have created the following vision, which is encapsulated in a single sentence and underpinned by our three school values.

"Valuing ourselves, each other, our community and our learning."

"At Nether Currie Primary School, we strive to ensure that every child is valued as an individual and we, as adults, enable them to be the very best version of themselves.  We celebrate diversity and encourage our children to be proud of who they are.  We recognise the importance of our place within the Currie community and endeavour to model strong values and equip our children with the skills necessary to become good citizens.  We believe in positive relationships, which are built on mutual trust and respect.  Through providing high quality teaching and learning experiences, our children can have the highest aspirations for themselves, as they move on to the next stage of their lives."

  • We are kind
  • We are responsible
  • We are motivated

We strongly believe that our vision continues to support the work we are doing at Nether Currie Primary School and captures who we are within our local community.

At Nether Currie, we teach the children three easy to remember rules. Every child in our school knows these rules inside out. All conversations regarding behaviour and relationships between staff and children come back to these rules.

  • Kind
  • Respectful
  • Safe

We have a strong sense of community, both within the school and out in the local area, and we are fully committed to helping our children to become the best people that they can be.

Our staff team works together to provide a safe, nurturing environment where every child, and their family, are valued as individuals, and where diversity is celebrated.

The principles of the Curriculum for Excellence are at the heart of our practice, and we believe that our children benefit from having opportunities for personal development, becoming involved in the ethos and wider life of the school, as well as experiencing high quality teaching and learning across all areas of the curriculum.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
