Crynodeb

The Fraud, Error and Debt Strategy Directorate comprises a wide range of activity all focused on supporting the DWP’s ambition to reduce fraud, error and debt and to transform DWP into a preventative organisation. The Directorate leads on a variety of high-profile and business critical work streams including, but not limited to:
  • Policy oversight for delivering the biggest welfare fraud and error package in a generation – worth £9.6bn over the next 5 years;
  • Leading work to deliver the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill – a cross-Departmental Bill to tackle public sector fraud, error and debt;
  • Leading work on a current NAO value for money study into the Department’s approach to managing fraud, error and debt.

There are two roles available in the Directorate – Head of Performance and Reporting; and Head of Legislative Strategy. Both roles are critical to drive the delivery of the Department’s strategic fraud, error and debt priorities with opportunities to influence a range of stakeholders within and across Government and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Head of Performance and Reporting, within the Performance, Assurance and Debt Policy Division. The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Leading on the Departmental-wide Fraud Error and Debt performance framework, driving the right incentives for the business, monitoring progress and reporting into the Fraud Error and Debt Board, ET and the Permanent Secretary;
  • setting and monitoring progress against the Department’s Fraud, Error and Debt external ambition;
  • co-ordinating the Fraud Error and Debt report in the Annual Report and Accounts and the associated liaison with the National Audit Office;
  • leading the Department’s understanding and response to the Fraud Error and Debt National Statistics.

Head of Legislative strategy within the Legislation and Communications Division. The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Leading policy development work to inform the Directorate’s future legislative strategy, with a particular focus beyond the current Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill;
  • In the short-term, the postholder will also be responsible for working closely with the existing Bill team to ensure the safe delivery of the PAFER Bill through the final stages of its Parliamentary passage and leading any immediate Bill-wide action as needed following Royal-Assent.

We are looking for candidates with experience working in the fraud and error space who will be able to hit the ground running in these roles.
