Crynodeb

The Media and International (MINT) Directorate covers broad and exciting areas of work. If you join our team you will work across government and industry to drive forward policy in a range of dynamic sectors, including TV, radio, press, advertising and international affairs.

It is a fascinating area of work at a time of great change in media markets and society in general, linking to cross-department themes such as the Future of TV, the BBC Charter Review, driving economic growth, managing digital transformation, protecting the UK’s information environment and ‘levelling up’ across the whole of the United Kingdom and beyond.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive and respectful team environment, with ample opportunities to get involved in corporate work such as our social committee or staff networks. Our staff survey scores show positive engagement in all areas, with a high level of interest in our work.

Recent Team achievements include the delivery of a successful series of training events and exercise to prepare us in the eventuality of a significant cyber attack on our broadcast infrastructure.

DCMS is responsible for leading work to ensure the security and resilience of the UK’s broadcast networks, one of the sectors which forms the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). The postholder will be part of the team responsible for leading government’s relationship with infrastructure operators and Whitehall partners including the Cabinet Office, DSIT, DESNZ, and the security agencies. You will lead and manage policy on some of the government’s top national security and resilience priorities, working with industry partners and government colleagues to ensure that infrastructure is able to withstand a range of threats and risks such as pandemics and severe weather.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Support the delivery of DCMS responsibilities as the Lead Government Department for the broadcasting CNI, working closely with the Cabinet Office.
  • Provide briefing and advice to ministers and senior officials on broadcast CNI security and resilience policy and assist them in understanding the threats and hazards facing the sector.
  • Support work to identify current and future risks to broadcast CNI systems.
  • Develop effective relationships with broadcast CNI operators in order to support their work to maintain and secure critical broadcast infrastructure.
  • Represent DCMS at cross government meetings as required.
  • Lead on actions for DCMS broadcast CNI arising out of the recent cross-Departmental review of risks.
  • Support the DCMS’s response to a major incident, when required, by collaborating with partners, providing support to ministers and senior officials.
  • Work on other national security-related media policy issues as required.
