About us
Salford City Council’s Waste and Recycling service provides a range of domestic waste, business waste and recycling collections to approximately 260,000 residents and 125,000 premises. These services include food & garden recycling, pulpable & comingled recycling, domestic & business waste collections, bulky household collections and bin deliveries. In order to deliver these essential services, we have a dedicated team who provide all the facilities and information for our customers to enable them to manage their waste correctly. Although we have increased recycling rates significantly over the last few years our aim is to improve on those achievements further.
About the Role
You will work as part of an experienced team of Waste and Recycling officers based in Turnpike Depot. The post requires a mix of desk work (approx. 30%), site visits (approx. 50%), and attendance at meetings (approx. 20%). Due to the tasks required, you will need to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
You will co-ordinate a team of employees and manage resources and assets for the service, including workloads and efficient ways of delivering the service. You will assist in the development, promotion and delivery of behavioural change campaigns.
An important element of the role will be managing environmental crimes and delivering enforcement actions. This will involve carrying out investigations and recording witness statements, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices, and assist legal services during the prosecution process.

You’ll bring excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling you to engage effectively with team members, stakeholders, and the public. You have a talent for delivering exceptional customer service and can communicate complex information in a clear, approachable manner. Your analytical skills allow you to assess needs and develop strategic plans proactively, using your own initiative to achieve successful outcomes. You’re experienced in managing staff and have a proven track record in environmental enforcement.
