Your role:

As a member of the Strategy team at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) this role will support the development of GMCA’s strategic direction and policy priorities and delivery of GM International Strategy. Working closely with other GMCA Teams, this post will provide advice and support to the leadership of the CA, and be responsible for maintaining and developing relationships with key external stakeholders.

The post-holder will do this by:

  • Supporting the refresh of the Greater Manchester International Strategy which is due to be reviewed in autumn 2025.
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Greater Manchester International Strategy, including developing project plans and evidence-based initiatives to deliver GMCA’s international priorities.
  • Provide leading support on the organisation and planning of international missions and visits by the Mayor and Portfolio Lead for Economy, Business & International, and the hosting of foreign officials, senior diplomats and other international visitors in Greater Manchester.
  • Support the delivery of city-region to city-region partnerships, working with local and international stakeholders to develop and deliver plans and projects that bring bilateral benefits to the people and businesses of both regions.

About you:

You will require experience and excellent understanding of international issues and policy as well as an understanding of how this relates to the wider priorities and strategies of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

You will be keen to develop your policy and strategy career in a fast-moving and exciting environment working directly with the Mayor and GMCA Leaders. You will have extensive experience of working in a complex multi-partner and international environment and working to challenging deadlines. You will have the versatility and time management skills to work across multiple evolving projects and activity at once.

You will be diplomatic, comfortable with working with senior politicians, business, academic leaders and providers from the UK and from foreign regions. You will have excellent intercultural skills and awareness of other cultures and backgrounds. You will take a creative leading role in influencing our policy and strategy development and be passionate about the impact this will have on Greater Manchester as a leading city region.
