The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

Corporate and Delivery Directorate works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The directorate is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

The primary function of the SEO role will be to manage the financial modelling activities within the Commercial Finance function for the new VCAS contract, providing expert support, advice, and guidance for complex commercial arrangements, offering challenge when necessary.

The successful candidate will need to ensure the timely delivery of financial support and assurance to stakeholders throughout the contract lifetime and will also need to support the establishment of the longer-term contract management approach.

This is an exciting role where you will have the opportunity to support the leadership and development of the Home Office’s Commercial Finance approach and capability, as well as that of the wider VCAS team. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a range of commercial, finance, business, and legal colleagues up to a senior level, as well as key suppliers.

The role requires financial modelling expertise with a high-level awareness of commercial processes / willingness to learn, and the skills and experience to apply this to post-procurement and contract management activities which are critically important to the Authority.

This is a high-impact role that will be central to the financial oversight and strategic management of the new VCAS (Visa and Citizenship Application Services) contract—a critical component of the Home Office’s service delivery.

As the Financial Modeller, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and interpreting complex financial models that support commercial decision-making, contract performance evaluation, and long-term financial planning. Your work will directly influence how the Home Office ensures value for money, manages financial risk, and delivers high-quality services to the public.

You will be embedded within a multidisciplinary team and will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across commercial, finance, legal, and operational functions, as well as with key external suppliers. Your insights will help shape commercial strategies, inform negotiations, and support the development of robust contract management frameworks.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to influence individuals at various levels, supporting them to understand and form decisions around complex issues.
  • Demonstrate experience in applying financial expertise to deliver value for money.
  • Be a team player and have experience of working collaboratively with others to deliver and take a proactive approach to resolving cross-cutting issues.
  • Be proactive and hard-working, with good judgement and excellent organisational skills, as well as a keen eye for detail.
  • Have a flexible approach to dealing with a challenging and varied workload and the ability to manage conflicting, high-profile priorities putting forward pragmatic solutions.
  • Act as a key Commercial Finance point of contact for suppliers and cross-cutting functions.
  • Support driving improvements in the consistent delivery of commercial finance expertise across financial activities.
  • Support stakeholder training & development and provide coaching to develop staff capability and skills.
  • Contribute to the development of Commercial Directorate culture, values, and behaviours.

Working pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.

Travel

Travel will be only as required to attend meetings if at another location.
