An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Assistant / Accountant to join a small, collaborative team in Sherborne. This role offers hands-on involvement in a variety of accounting responsibilities, from day-to-day bookkeeping through to management accounts and audit preparation.
This is a diverse role that requires both technical skill and a proactive, organised approach.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure efficient processing of all finance functions
- Carry out bookkeeping tasks, ensuring income and expenses are properly recorded and VAT is correctly treated
- Manage payment runs and carry out weekly bank reconciliations as required
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Maintain ledgers, control accounts, and fixed asset registers
- Prepare management accounts and year-end statutory files for review and audit
- Produce financial reports such as actual vs. budget summaries and profit forecasts
- Support with ad hoc project work
We’re looking for someone with relevant accounting experience, ideally gained in a practice environment, who enjoys variety and takes pride in high-quality, accurate work.
- Working towards or recently gained an accountancy qualification, or qualified by experience
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and management accounting
- The ability to manage a high volume of work with strong prioritisation skills
- A high level of discretion and the ability to work with confidential information
- Excellent attention to detail, administrative skills, and written/verbal communication
- Good interpersonal skills – tactful, approachable, and confident when dealing with others
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and accounting software
- A flexible and proactive attitude with a willingness to support across the team
This position is paying upto £32,000 depending on expereince with an annual salary and bonus review. Other benefits include:
