An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Planner to join the planning service at Renfrewshire Council. You will study for a BSc in Town Planning at the University of West of Scotland (UWS) on a part-time basis, while also working within our planning teams to contribute to the delivery of the statutory planning service.
The role will enable you to develop your skills and experience with a varying and dynamic workload whilst studying on a part time basis. On completion of your degree you will have opportunities to apply for any suitable advertised roles within the planning field.
You will have a varied and diverse role and work within our planning and regeneration teams which will include working within our Development Standards Team to assist with the assessment of planning applications, working in our Strategy and Place Team to assist the preparation of the local development plan and associated guidance and working in our Regeneration and Place Team to assist with the delivery of projects. As part of the role, you will be dealing with customer enquiries online, in person and on the telephone while also attending site visits, public events and other public engagement events.
In order to apply, candidates are required to have 4 Highers graded BCCC including National 5 Maths and English (Grade B, or above). In addition, although not essential, it is desirable to have a full current UK driving licence. You should have IT skills and good written and oral communication skills. You will need to have the ability to work collaboratively.
Please note that this post is temporary, subject to business needs and funding for 6 years or until the requirement for the post ceases, whichever date is the earlier.
The expected attendance at university is one day per week for Terms 1 and 2. You will be required to participate in the formal courses and exams / assessments as required in the course outcomes for the BSc in Town Planning.
