Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. This position will be one of two SEOs in the Director General’s team, the other performing a Private Secretary job on key elements of portfolio including FNOs and Strategic Services and Transformation. The team is also made up of a Grade 6 Chief of Staff, Grade 7 Deputy Chief of Staff and a HEO Assistant Private Secretary and Diary Manager.
This job will have exposure to the whole range of issues and priorities across Immigration Enforcement, being at the forefront and working with seniors to understand their challenges. The Senior Business Support Manager will have a highly autonomous role in the DGs office, suitable for an experienced SEO given they will be the sole lead for all of IE’s senior boards.
The main day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Organisation of the Senior Leadership Day and Executive Boards – You will be solely responsible for the logistical organisation of these days for the IE SCS. This will include agenda setting, creating briefings and reporting to the Director General directly on all aspects of the day’s running.
- Providing surge support to the Director General’s Private Office – You will be an integral part of the Director General’s PO and therefore require an understanding of all areas of IEs operations. This will include covering private secretary roles in the team during busy periods, low levels of resilience and annual leave in addition to day-to-day responsibilities and require a full-time presence in 2MS.
- Being the DGs communications lead – You will be the central point of contact for all the DGs communications, including his monthly global and all key messages to staff. This will include drafting and sequencing the communications to ensure the right messages are sent out to IE and working closely with the existing communications and engagement team in the wider IE secretariat. There will also be an expectation for creative thinking and developing the DGs presence in this space given this is a new post in the DG’s office.
The successful candidate will need to be highly proactive to ensure that everything is in line with the Director General’s expectations and used to working in a fast-paced environment given the rolling nature of the boards and the significant amount of logistical planning that is involved.
This is a fast-paced multi-faceted diverse role which would suit someone with experience of handling a wide range of responsibilities at pace, all the while operating in a collaborative and open manner. They will need to be comfortable working with seniors and their teams to ensure they are not only delivering for the Director General, but for the SCS of IE as a whole.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Logistical organisation of two boards per month, some virtual and some based at various HO locations. around the UK and therefore must be willing to undertake domestic travel when needed.
- Agenda setting and paper coordination for the boards, as well as sourcing external speakers.
- Drafting of all the DGs communications, including his monthly global.
- Providing support to the wider PO and the Director General’s priorities.
- Managing a diverse range of internal stakeholders to ensure the IE Boards deliver for all the SCS.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
