Westminster City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Housing Lawyer / Solicitor to join our Legal Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a high-performing local authority, supporting vital housing litigation and advisory work that directly impacts our residents and communities.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for managing a busy caseload of housing litigation matters, including:

Possession proceedings
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) injunctions
Disrepair claims
Tenancy-related advice
Succession and other housing law matters

You will report to the Principal Lawyer and work closely with colleagues across Legal Services and Housing teams. The role is hybrid, with a mix of remote and in-office work based in Westminster.

Key Responsibilities:

Take over and manage a live caseload of 50+ complex housing litigation matters
Provide clear, practical legal advice to internal clients
Represent the council in court proceedings and liaise with counsel where necessary
Draft legal documents and correspondence
Respond to new instructions efficiently and support the wider team during high-demand periods

What We’re Looking For:

Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive (ICLEX or Law Society membership essential)
Strong experience in housing law, particularly possession and ASB litigation
Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently
Excellent communication, drafting, and advocacy skills
A proactive, solution-focused approach to legal problem-solving
