Pay rate: £171.53 per day PAYE
A Basic DBS is required for this role.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, that can be worked remotely.
The role:
We are seeking, on behalf of a local authority, a Revenue and Benefits Assessment Officer to assess and administer applications for council statutory and discretionary schemes, including those of a possible complex nature.
You will be responsible for the administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction new claims and changes whilst delivering a prompt, accurate and customer-focused service and sharing knowledge and skill with inexperienced colleagues.
NEC and Enterprise experience is essential for this role.
Key responsibilities:
Accurately and promptly assess applications
Report changes in circumstances affecting these applications
Maintain and update claims in response to information received from internal and external sources
Carry out complex assessments, including adjudicating on fraud and disputed assessments
Review and revise decisions made by the team
Provide written and face to face explanations of decisions and overpayments
Respond to urgent and non-urgent requests for updates or information about claims
Support, coach and mentor new entrants by sharing knowledge and experience
Deliver an outstanding service by effectively communicating with customers and stakeholders by telephone, email and by letter
What the client is looking for:
Customer-focused with excellent communication and empathy skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex info
Must have recent NEC and Enterprise experience
The ability to administer and review Council Tax/Housing Benefit claims, adjustments and previous decisions
Must have a minimum of 3 years recent housing Benefit experience
Proven track record of meeting targets and deadlines with strong attention to detail
Skilled at analysing info and following processes accurately
Experienced in mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback
Strong decision-making skills based on evidence
Experience of working with diverse vulnerable groups including homeless, care leavers, and disabled people
Proficient in Microsoft Office and quick to learn new systems and technology
Solid numerical skills
