Basic DBS is required for this role.



The role:

On behalf of a local authority, we are seeking a Revenue and Benefits Assessment Officer for the assessment and administration of applications for council statutory and discretionary schemes, including those of a possible complex nature.

You will deliver a prompt, accurate and customer-focused service whilst sharing knowledge and skills with inexperienced colleagues.

A minimum of 3 years Housing benefit assessment experience and recent experience of NEC and Enterprise is essential for this role.



Key responsibilities:

Accurately and promptly assess applications, process changes, and maintain updated claims using information from various sources
Handle complex assessments, including fraud adjudication and disputed cases, as well as review and revise decisions when necessary
Provide clear explanations of decisions and overpayments, respond to both urgent and non-urgent enquiries, and check the work of colleagues
Support new staff through coaching and mentoring, contribute to service improvement projects, and ensure compliance with local guidance and legislation



What the client is looking for:

A minimum of 3 years Housing benefit assessment experience
Experience of NEC and Enterprise
Customer-focused with a strong commitment to excellent service and meeting targets
Excellent telephone and communication skills
Detail-oriented and methodical, able to analyse customer information and follow processes
Flexible, adaptable, and skilled in clear, empathetic communication
Competent with numbers and manual calculations
Ability to review and mentor colleagues
Strong decision-maker experience with diverse vulnerable client groups
Proficient in Microsoft Office and new technology
