Description
The Principal Planner (Gr J) position is a senior-level role within our dynamic planning department, focusing on advancing our urban development goals while ensuring sustainability and community engagement. In this position, you will lead strategic planning initiatives, oversee zoning applications, and collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, and the community at large. You will be tasked with the responsibility of developing comprehensive plans that reflect the vision of our community while addressing regulatory requirements and economic considerations. A critical aspect of this role is to utilize data-driven approaches to inform decision-making and planning processes; hence, proficiency in GIS and other analytical tools is strongly preferred. As a Principal Planner, you will mentor junior planners, fostering their professional growth and ensuring a high standard of work across the department. You will also represent the department at public meetings, providing expert insights into planning policies and regulations. Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive planning initiatives and policies.
Oversee and manage zoning applications and land use plans.
Coordinate with government agencies, community groups, and private developers to ensure collaborative planning efforts.
Conduct complex research and data analysis to support planning decisions and proposals.
Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and proposals to elected officials and community stakeholders.
Mentor junior planners and provide guidance on best practices in urban planning.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding land use and development.
Requirements
Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
A minimum of 7 years of experience in urban or regional planning, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of zoning laws, land use regulations, and community development processes.
Proficiency with GIS software and planning-related technologies.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience mentoring junior team members.

End Time: 17:00
