Crynodeb

The Employment Rights Directorate (ERD) sits in the Competition, Markets and Regulatory Reform Group at the heart of the Department for Business and Trade.

Employment Rights is a top priority for the new Government who have set out an ambitious, wide ranging and long-term reform plan for workers’ rights in The Plan to Make Work Pay.

The work is fast paced and high profile but, most importantly, has a significant tangible real-world impact on the lives of working people.

To accommodate this new priority the Directorate has expanded significantly but retains a working culture that we are exceptionally proud of. We pride ourselves on the high quality and significant quantity of work that we deliver but we are clear that it is our working culture that enables us to deliver that. The Directorate is inclusive, friendly, collaborative, supportive and embraces genuinely flexible working.

The National Minimum Wage & Wage Policy team in the Employment Rights Directorate has recently expanded to take on an exciting new remit to address a number of cross-cutting issues in wage policy. The team will design and implement a range of projects that will address existing and emerging issues to ensure workers are fairly compensated for their work. The work may include, but is not limited to, any of the following:

  • Reviewing the interaction of national minimum wage, worker status and active working time
  • Reforming the apprentice rate of the national minimum wage
  • Delivering the national minimum wage uprating process
  • Relationship management and sponsorship of the Low Pay Commission
  • Reviewing and reforming payslip requirements to ensure fair wages
  • Scoping opportunities to reduce the gender pay gap

As an SEO, you will be expected to at times own a project or policy area and work with autonomy, while at other times support senior colleagues to deliver shared objectives.
