Oxford Brookes University has a professional network of well-trained expert mentors who have a deep understanding of the Brookes ITE curriculum, the relevant research which underpins it and their role in supporting its delivery and practice in partnership schools. Through their thorough understanding of the on-placement and on-campus curriculum, mentors ensure that a trainee’s on-placement experience is carefully aligned with the on-campus elements of the programme. Mentors ensure that trainees are provided with purposeful opportunities to apply their knowledge in the classroom, providing specific feedback and strategies in order to move their learning and practice forward.

The lead mentor will join a team of dedicated colleagues in the ITT team to lead a rigorous and ambitious mentoring curriculum for school-based mentors. The applicant will have expertise, knowledge and experience in supporting teachers who are new to the profession. This may be in the field of initial teacher training or within a school-based context. They will have a secure understanding of the role of the school-based mentor. Lead mentors are foundational in continuing to implement our clear vision for mentoring in our partnership schools. Applying their expert knowledge in the field, lead mentors have high expectations for our school mentors, inspiring them to exceed the standards of the new DfE requirements through a highly effective programme of training, support and monitoring.

Central to the lead mentor’s role is maintaining a secure network of skilled professional mentors across our partnership schools who have the relevant knowledge, skills and expertise to support trainee’s learning and development from novice to effective teachers.
