Summary

About you and this role

The Plant Process Control Technologist supports the Process Automation (PA) systems associated with the Basics and Utilities Production units and works as part of the wider Operations team during issue resolution and plant return to safe operation.

The role involves solo and team working where required and provides subject matter guidance for the non-PA disciplines.

Training will be given to help the suitable candidate bridge any skills gaps and to enable them to work to PA and wider site standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

Acts as the primary contact for the Operations Team to resolve process control issues and assist during troubleshooting. This includes system queries, e.g., reverse engineering and control strategy explanations.
Provides support in response to system error conditions or failures as the first point of escalation from the plant.
Conducts control system optimization, including loop tuning, sequence debugging, and advanced control and optimization (AC&O).
Participates in the wider PA team rota to provide 24/7 out-of-hours plant support.
Performs predictive and preventative maintenance (PPM) and health checks on certain systems and participates in software and hardware upgrades.
Participates in Management of Change (MOC) reviews for plant and process modifications and completes small projects/MOC work, including scope definition, design, configuration, and commissioning.
Responsible for area alarm reporting and assistance in the site alarm reduction program. Conducts all activities within the site safe systems of work and contributes to site safety initiatives.
Qualifications

HND or degree-level qualification in Electronics, Instrumentation, Process Engineering, or a related field, plus process control, manufacturing, or other related experience preferred.
In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of demonstrable experience gained in a manufacturing environment.
Understanding of chemical and utilities processes, and the typical control schemes used in such processes.
Previous operational experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Your skills

DCS experience in Foxboro DCS configuration preferred, but other DCS configuration experience would be advantageous, e.g., Emerson Ovation (or Delta V) applications.
Knowledge of PLC systems, i.e., Schneider/Modicon, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley.
Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Burner Management Systems (BMS), ideally Triconex.
Understanding and ability to develop control configuration using function blocks, ladder logic, and structured text languages.
Understanding of P&IDs, Cause and Effect charts, Instrument and Electrical Drawings.
Additional notes

Good troubleshooting, communication, and people skills are essential.
Competent in Microsoft OS and Office applications.
Ability to work alone and as part of a multi-discipline team.
