Crynodeb

This exciting and vital role is based in a team of Civil Service scientists providing advice regarding the use and performance of petroleum products used in UK military aircraft. As part of the team, you will also design and lead scientific investigations in the fields of petroleum products (aviation fuels, lubricating and hydraulic oils) and elastomeric type materials, interpret and present scientific data and provide advice to ensure airworthiness and aircraft availability are maintained.

As part of the team, you will also collaborate with national and international partners in assuring the provision of expert scientific advice and risk-based judgements to the military Air Commands on the continued safe use of petroleum products in aircraft systems.

Responsibilities

As a Navy Command (NC) chemistry specialist you will develop scientific approaches to help resolve a wide range of in-service petroleum product and elastomeric material issues for NC and other agreed customers to maintain product integrity and serviceability.

Contribute to the delivery of the embarked fuel husbandry program including sample processing, supporting investigations, intelligent reasoning, and advice to enable NC platforms to remain operationally effective.

Manage and allocate resources to enable the section to maintain a wide range of analytical and scientific equipment and continue to deliver its’ outputs.

Supervising and developing the capabilities of the team with the identification and adaptation of new technologies. Promote best practice, support the introduction of new technologies, processes, and related policy into service.

Support the professional development of your team to assure the provision of expert scientific advice and risk-based judgements provided to customers.
