An exciting opportunity has arisen to join HMS Sultan as the Establishment Safety Advisor (Sul ESA), a critical role in a major Royal Navy establishment that delivers trained Air & Marine Engineers to RN ships and submarines and contributes to Royal Navy operations worldwide.

HMS Sultan Command team is looking for an experienced and pro-active Health and Safety professional who will be responsible for delivering, developing and embedding a robust culture of safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance across a busy and complex establishment. You will be part of a small team of Health, Safety, Environmental Protection team (HSEP) professionals and work closely with military personnel, civilian staff, contractors and external agencies to ensure that safety and environmental excellence remain at the heart of everything we do.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

You will provide specialist advice, assurance, and assistance to the Command team on all aspects of health & safety protection at HMS Sultan, it’s lodger units and outstations. Sultan’s ESA is the Deputy 4Cs Control of Contractors Appointed Person in the absence of the Health and Safety Manager (HSM), his is a challenging but rewarding role that also provides the opportunity for personal development and the ability to improve and progress your career.

Whilst based in Napier Building in HMS Sultan, a large part of your role is getting out around the site advising teams, conducting audits, rounds, and investigating health and safety issues.

In support of Command objectives, the Establishment Safety Advisor will:

Provide HSEP advice and assurance to all levels of line management in HMS Sultan.
Support and promote HMS Sultan’s Safety Culture.
Support and promote HSEP input into governance boards and meetings.
Assure establishment safety through audits and rounds.
Deliver duties of Establishment Fire focal point in their absences.
Lead on visits to HMS Sultan by external safety and regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive and Emergency Services.
Deliver underpinning H&S activities including policies and approvals.
Carry out Electromagnetic Safety Officer duties in the absence of the HSM.
HMS Sultan’s 4Cs accountable persons Deputy, ensuring Contractors following site processes and policies.
The post holder is expected to remain current in relevant MoD and national H&S policy and guidance.
To assist the qualified Occupational Noise Assessor in undertaking Noise Assessments as requested by Departments.
To co-ordinate the conduct of all types of Risk Assessments including population of the POL Risk database.
