Are you passionate about making a positive and lasting difference for Deaf children and young people of Hull? Have you experience of supporting Special Educational Needs children and young people? Hull City Council is looking for exceptional individuals like you to join the Integrated Physical and Sensory Service - IPASS team. If you have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs, specifically Deaf children and have excellent IT and communication skills, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to our IPASS Sensory Support Service for Deaf Children’s Team, with a requirement to support children across the city. The candidate will be required to work flexibly across mainstream settings for children 0-18 and will be required to work at the secondary Resource Base for Deaf children. you must have the ability to move efficiently between a number of locations in any one day as necessary
A British Sign Language (BSL) level 2 qualification is desirable or willingness to train to this level. An NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification is desired, along with skills and experience of working in a range of educational environments from pre-school to post-16.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of IT based systems, including Microsoft Office. A friendly and professional manner is essential as you will be dealing with children and young people, parents, educational settings partners, and external organisations.
Duties will involve supporting deaf children in the learning environment and supporting their access to the lesson content. The successful candidate will be expected to plan, prepare and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups under the supervision of a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf. The individual will be expected to assess, record and report on pupils’ achievement, progress and development. The role will require using your initiative, as an ability to adjust activities according to pupil responses/needs is needed. The individual will need to establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. It is imperative that the successful candidate promotes and safeguards the welfare of children and young people they are supporting.
Duties will also include delivering training to staff and establishing constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/ professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of pupils.
