Are you passionate about making a positive and lasting difference for Deaf children and young people? Hull City Council is looking for exceptional individuals like you to join the Integrated Physical and Sensory Service (IPaSS). If you have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs, specifically deaf children, and have excellent communication and IT skills, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!
We are seeking to recruit a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to our friendly and hardworking IPASS Primary Resource Base for Deaf Children.
A British Sign Language (BSL) level 2 qualification is desirable or a willingness to train to this level. An NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification is desired, along with skills and experience of working with a range of primary age children.
Duties will involve supporting deaf children in their learning environment and enabling their access to the lesson content and as well as supporting their social activities to develop their social and communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals/groups under the supervision of a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf and so have a good understanding of IT based systems, including Microsoft Office is required. The individual will be expected to assess, record and report on pupils’ achievement, progress and development. The role will require using your initiative, as an ability to adjust activities according to pupil responses/needs is necessary. The individual will need to establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. It is imperative that the successful candidate promotes and safeguards the welfare of children and young people they are supporting.
A friendly and professional manner is essential as you will be working with children and young people, their parents, mainstream colleagues and external organisations, in liaison of the Resource Base teachers, to support the achievement and progress of pupils.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Rebecca Winks, on 01482 976 320 or rebecca.winks@hullcc.gov.uk
