Here in Jersey, Our Community Hub consists of a Café, Charity Shop, and Pantry Store, alongside meeting room facilities where groups and activities are held. It is a safe place where all are welcome. We are looking for 2 Assistants who can support our Community Centre Manager with the effective day to day running of the Hub.
Our Community Assistant will work in all areas of the Hub, covering a broad range of duties depending on what is happening that day. Because of this, we need someone who is ‘hands on’ and willing to get involved in a wide variety of tasks; including welcoming and supporting someone experiencing crisis or difficulty, including providing practical support through our new Pantry Store and our Cafe; serving customers in the Charity Shop; taking orders in the Café; carrying out general admin duties; supporting volunteers; or helping to manage larger events being held at the Hub. The Community Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Community Hub to run effectively and for the benefit of our community.
The nature of the role requires the successful candidate to be approachable, compassionate, flexible and unflappable.
You will have:
The ability to prioritise, organise and manage your own and others’ workload.
Great communication and interpersonal skills, able to quickly build relationships with colleagues, volunteers and customers.
A strong sense of empathy and compassion.
A good level of English, both spoken and written.
Working experience of using Microsoft Office programmes
It would help if you have:
Previous retail, charity or hospitality sector experience
The ability to speak any additional languages such as Portuguese, Polish or Romanian.
A good understanding of statutory, charity and other available support in Jersey.

Only those people who are ‘entitled’ or ‘entitled to work’ in Jersey can apply for this role. We will not be able to accept applications from ‘registered’ Jersey candidates (for whom the employer is required to seek permission to employ.)
Please note that any Salvation Army employees who are under notice of redundancy and apply for this position will be given priority consideration.
We reserve the right to close this advert earlier if we feel that we have received sufficient applications.
Promoting equality in the workplace and as a disability confident leader scheme employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet all the minimum essential criteria for the vacancy.
