Summary


We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our wellintegrated Multi-Disciplinary Sarcoma Team. Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbecome an integral member ofasurgicalteamofthreeOrthopaedic Surgeons and three Plastic Surgeons treating Soft-Tissue and Bony Sarcomas. The successful candidate will join as a co-chair of the Sarcoma MDT, and have primary responsibility for bony sarcomas in both adult and paediatric patients. Additional roles include the treatment of complex and tertiary referral metastatic bone disease and the opportunity to engage in elective arthroplasty. The candidate must have fellowship training in Orthopaedic Oncology.



In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

· ThesuccessfulcandidatewilljointheexistingSarcoma Service ‘Surgeon of the week’rotawith responsibility for referral triage and chairing the weekly MDT meeting.

· The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their special interest and will be supported with peer mentoring, a close-knit and high functioning MDT, and dual consultant operating.

· The successful candidate will be required to treat benign and malignant bony and soft-tissue tumours in both adult patients at the Freeman Hospital, and paediatric patients at the Great North Children’s Hospital on the RVI site.

· The successful candidate will help to further develop the tertiary referral metastatic bone disease service in line with national BOAST guidelines.

· Play an active role in reviewing cancer targets and service specification.

· Participateinaudit andclinicalgovernance.

· Showacommitmenttocontinuingprofessionaldevelopment.

· Participateinannualappraisal(forrevalidation)andintheannualjob planningprocess.

· Work with and support all members of the clinical team.
