Summary
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
This post has arisen due to a need to expand our paediatric ophthalmology service and to support our adult motility service due to a retirement. The paediatric service is run by two consultants, a Specialist doctor, fellow, resident doctors and supported by a well intergrated orthoptic department. The department and theatres are well equiped and on the same site as the Great North Children’s Hospital with which there are close links.
In addition to the challenges of the role, there are opportunities for teaching, education, research and audit.
Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of an effective and comprehensive paediartic ophthalmology service and adult motility service as part of the paediatic ophthalmology team. They will be expected to take part in the teaching of resident doctors and orthoptists as well as administrative roles within specialty. The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national Consultant contract.

· To be able to provide management of paediatric eye conditions in a busy service as part of the paediatric ophthalmology team.
· To manage adult motility cases.
· To provide cataract surgery if required
· To work in other areas such as eye emergency if required.
