Summary

We are pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for a Junior Clinical Fellowships in General Adult Psychiatry at the historic Bethlem Royal Hospital and at Jeanette Wallace House, both based in the London Borough of Croydon. We are part of the world-renowned South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a substantive post for a four Junior Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry. The successful candidates will be providing six months each on rotation (a total of one year) of medical input to:

EITHER

· Fitz Mary 1 Ward, a female acute ward at the Bethlem Royal Hospital

· The Croydon South Assessment and Liaison Team, a general adult community-based team operating in Croydon.

OR

· Tyson West 1 Ward, a male acute ward at the Bethlem Royal Hospital

· The Croydon North Assessment and Liaison Team a general adult community-based team operating in Croydon.

This post benefits from 1 day per week (2 SPA sessions) to undertake non-clinical psychiatry-related work and allow successful applicants to develop and grow as junior doctors in psychiatry.

We are looking for enthusiastic and engaged candidates who have completed their foundation training in the UK or have other equivalent experience and qualifications.

We will help you choose from various placements/projects/opportunities within SLaM or via our affiliation with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience.

This is a substantive post for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry in the Croydon Borough of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The post seeks four successful candidates who will be assigned to one of two rotations that consist of an inpatient post and a community post. Candidates will rotate between the two posts, working six months in each over a year. These are new posts to the trust and were developed to provide a varied experience for junior doctors who may want a year out of training to work and pursue related projects or to work within psychiatry for a year to help make decisions regarding further training. The post is about more than service provision; it seeks to help successful candidates grow and develop as doctors.

The post is full-time (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday). The successful candidate will be able to join the on-call rota should they wish to.

The post offers two sessions supporting professional activities, which allows the post holder to undertake projects related to their role and develop areas of interest. SLaM has an affiliation with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience which the successful candidate can explore. SLaM further has many specialist units that candidates may wish to spend time in to expand their knowledge. Other opportunities, such as medical education or QIP work, are available. We will help successful candidates access the myriad of opportunities on offer.

Clinical responsibilities

· Review and Management of inpatients/team caseload and day-to-day workload of the service

· Attending ward rounds/team meetings/CPA Meetings

· Carrying out risk assessments and formulating appropriate risk management plans

· Formulating care plans

· Physical health monitoring of patients – including carrying out physical examination and investigations as appropriate

· Liaising with GP’s and various other professionals/ teams within and outside SLAM including with Social services, DVLA and the Voluntary sector.

· Attending external patient meetings as appropriate

· Making safeguarding referrals

· Record keeping – including preparing reports/letters, discharge notifications/summaries and ensuring that all the relevant information gathered by you following patient contact is recorded clearly in the trust’s electronic notes (EPJS) and elsewhere as appropriate.

8 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care and 2 SPAs to Supporting Professional Activity.

The four successful candidates will rotate between two posts at six months with a years total duration.
