The Post:
The Exeter Centre for Cytomics (EXCC) at the University of Exeter is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Data Scientist with expertise in the rapidly developing fields of multiplexed flow and imaging cytometry, and multi-omics (spatial proteomics and transcriptomics). This full-time position is based at the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus and is available immediately.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate data science specialist eager to further their career by joining a vibrant and diverse community of researchers utilizing cutting-edge cytometry-based technologies. Responsibilities include designing and coding analysis pipelines in widely used programming languages (e.g., R/Bioconductor, Python, MATLAB) and analyzing complex datasets using both publicly available and commercial software packages (e.g. FlowJo, FCS Express, AI-cluster analysis tools, ImageJ, Cell Profiler). Additionally, the role involves developing novel tools using statistics, mathematics, and machine learning approaches for high-dimensional data analysis.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with experts in mathematics, bioinformatics, and computing, as well as with research scientists at all levels.

Since its founding in 2019, EXCC has become a centre of excellence providing cutting-edge innovative cytomics technologies including imaging flow cytometers (Imagestream, FlowCam), BSLII cell sorters (Bigfoot, FACSAria Fusion, Influx), spectral analyser (Aurora), conventional flow cytometers (Attune NxT, CytoFlex LX), advanced omics technologies (FlexMap3D, ChromiumX (10X)), and high-performance data analysis structure. This portfolio has been expanded by further state-of-the-art Tissue Cytomics technology MACSima System (spatial proteomics and transcriptomics) in the near future. The EXCC is a team of experienced cytometrists and a financial management administrator as full-time staff to support researchers with their cytometry projects.

You will be joining the EXCC team as an expert in data science and strengthening our team capabilities in the continuously developing field of high-dimensional and AI-based data analysis approaches. The post holder will contribute to the day-to-day management of the facility and will be expected to contribute to the increased effectiveness, efficiency and quality of the facility, its processes and procedures, and to support the growing research needs of a range of disciplines accessing the facility. These disciplines include biosciences, bioinformatics, data science, environmental, marine, microbiology, plant sciences, mycology and immunology along with a diverse community of collaborators working on exciting interdisciplinary projects in health and life sciences.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
