Senior Theatre Practitioner, Thoracic Theatres, Band 6, Substantive.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Theatre Practitioner with excellent leadership skills to join the Thoracic Theatre Team at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Theatre Practitioner.

The Thoracic Theatres at UHS operate up to nine all-day lists from Monday to Saturday. We have performed well over 1,000 surgeries in 2023 alone. The service includes Open Thoracotomies, Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgeries (VATS), complex airway procedures including laser and hybrid procedures, and Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (RATS) using 2 robot systems (Da Vinci & CMR Surgical). We also provide services for rib fixations and chest wall reconstruction.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

As a successful applicant, you will be required to:

1. Work flexibly between two theatres as well as cover emergency and out of hours (nights, weekends, and late shifts) services as a part of the general surgery team
2. Perform coordinating roles for the entire theatre department
3. Run theatre lists not only for Thoracic but also for other general theatres on occasion
4. Conduct regular appraisals and audits as part of your managerial role
5. Support and manage a range of learners in practice
6. Provide clinical expertise to other departments and/or hospitals where and as needed


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

We are looking for applicants who have:
1. Demonstrable leadership qualities
2. Current and relevant scrub experience, as well as comprehensive Thoracic Surgery experience including knowledge with the Intuitive and Versius Robotic Platforms
3. Foundation Management Course or equivalent
4. Flexibility with working patterns
5. Experiences in clinical management & change management
6. Good communication skills with ability to provide complex information in intense settings
7. Background in coaching and supporting team development
8. Good organisational skills including Thoracic-specific teaching sessions and conferences
