A fantastic opportunity has arisen in our Endoscopy Unit at Tameside and Glossop Integrated care organisation for 2 Endoscopy assistance to join our existing Endoscopy team.

The Endoscopy Unit within the NHS Foundation Trust is JAG accredited. The service incorporates a 3 room Endoscopy unit delivering both diagnostic and therapeutic intervention to all patients.

The primary focus of this role is to provide an effective and high quality service in relation to the specified clinical procedures within the Endoscopy Unit. The post holder will need to be motivated and able to work as part of a well-established team and be an excellent communicator with the ability to support the team in the day to day operation of the services they provide.

Applicants must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

We want to recruit highly motivated individuals who can provide high quality standards of care and work towards completing a portfolio of evidence in Endoscopy. Training will be ongoing.

• to develop skills, which enable the post holder to support the nursing team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within defined sphere of responsibility.
• To assist the registered practitioners within the clinical area.
• To always act in a manner consistent with core standards carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures under the direction of a Registered practitioner.

JOB SUMMARY

Section 1 - Main Responsibilities



Professional/Clinical


1. Support the delivery of evidence based care by providing support to the team in accordance with local and national guidelines.


1. Ensure all records relating to patient care are accurate, clear, concise, legible and in accordance with local and national guidelines.


1. Actively assess and manage risk within the clinical area.


1. Participate in audits of practice.


1. Support the Clinical Governance systems to delivering high quality of care.


1. Participate in benchmarking activity within the Clinical Area and implement outcome from Essence of Care.









Administrative/Managerial


1. Support the team in effective Resource Management.


1. Participate in ensuring the delivery of the Trust targets.


1. Develop skills and knowledge which enable participation in complex activities


1. Monitoring and help maintaining stock.


1. Contribute to new working practices.



Human Resource Management


1. Participate in the training and development of student nurses and other staff as appropriate.


1. Support the team in ensuring that there is appropriate allocation of staff duties.


1. Ensure communication of information of a complex nature is given sensitivity and confidentiality is maintained.



Section 2 - Knowledge and Skills


1. Develop expert clinical knowledge appropriate to area of responsibility.


1. Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations.


1. Use professional judgement and initiative to promote safe practice.


1. Demonstrate knowledge of staff and resource management.


1. Communication of highly detailed information, which requires agreement, co-operation and prioritisation, within the multi-disciplinary team and external associated departments/hospitals.


1. Requirement to communicate to others where there may be some barriers to understanding.


1. The post holder will be developing physical skills hand and eye co-ordination.




1. The post holder will be developing specialist knowledge and expertise in identifying potentially unsafe or damaged instruments and act accordingly.




1. The post holder will possess or be working towards gaining an in depth knowledge of protocols and procedures specific and local to practice.



Section 3 - Effort and Environment


1. Participate frequently in tasks requiring physical effort for short periods.


1. Deal with bodily fluids on a daily basis.


1. Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations.


1. Concentrate for long periods and respond to unpredictable patient and staff demands.


1. Maintain contemporaneous patient records at all times.


1. Assist with the movement of patients after completing the relevant manual handling course.



Section 4 - Additional Requirements


1. To provide cover for colleagues as directed by your manager.


1. Risk Management (Health and Safety)


1. a) You will follow risk management procedures at all times. The Risk Management procedures for the Trust and the department are kept by the departmental manager.


1. b) You are responsible for Risk Management issues in respect of yourself and your colleagues.


1. c) If you identify a potential hazard you should report it to your manager/supervisor at once. If in doubt you should speak to your manager for guidance.


1. d) You must always use safety equipment provided, and report any defects to your manager. You must attend Risk Management Training as directed by your Manager.


1. To avoid any behaviour which discriminates against your fellow employees, or potential employees on the grounds of their sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, religion, creed, colour, nationality, ethnic origin or disability.


1. To safeguard at all times confidentiality of information relating to patients and staff.


1. To refrain from smoking in any areas of Trust premises.

2. To Assist with the Admission of Patients.
3. To abide by infection control policy in line with Covid 19
