Hours available: 2 shift patterns available - 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (37.5 hours), and 11am to 7pm, Saturday to Sunday (15 hours) .

Various positions to cover a 7 day service, flexibility will be required and it is essential you can cover Saturday/Sundays/Bank Holidays, Part time and Full Time Available

An opportunity has arisen to join the Trust in this varied and interesting role within the Domestic Department, offering a high quality, flexible and patient focused service.



The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing high standards of cleanliness in all areas throughout the hospital, following appropriate cleaning procedures.

The post holder will be required to use chemicals and handle cleaning equipment responsibly, and within health and safety guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining patient, staff and public safety through appropriate use of warning signage whilst cleaning.

The post holder is required to work on their own or as part of a team to deliver services as directed by policies, procedures and national standards which are monitored by supervisory staff.

The post holder will need to have a friendly and helpful manner and have a sensitive approach when dealing with patients and their families.

General cleaning which includes:
o High and low dusting
o Wet and dry mopping
o Vacuum Cleaning
o Scrubbing floors with mechanical machine
o Polishing floors with mechanical machine
o Emptying clinical and general waste bins and placing bags in designated areas
o Cleaning and descaling of toilets and sanitary areas
o Curtain changing – taking curtains down and re-hanging
o Cleaning baths, taps and showers
o Isolation cleaning
o Carpet shampooing
Present an efficient, high quality domestic service to patients and staff within the hospital.
• To follow cleaning procedures and frequencies.
• To operate mechanical equipment i.e. floor machines, sucking up machines, vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, steam cleaner.
• To co-operate when new methods of work/frequencies of cleaning are introduced following instruction.
• Respond to rectifications following audits within a given timescale.
• Inform Supervisor of requirements for work materials and check delivery of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• To empty and remove refuse, general and clinical and store and label in designated collection points.
• To replenish all disposables, hand towels, toilet rolls and soaps.
• To check the health and safety of domestic equipment and to report any hazards or potential hazards to the Domestic Supervisor.
• To adhere to all Method statements and Operating Procedures
• To be responsible for reporting all accidents and incidents to the Domestic Supervisor.
• To ensure that a clean protective uniform is worn at all times when on duty and to use relevant Personal Protection Equipment in accordance with the Trust policy.
• To report any signs of infestation to the Domestic Supervisor.
• To work in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines in the correct use of chemicals.
• To follow instructions issued by the Domestic Supervisor when undertaking curtain changing on wards and departments safely.
• To take responsibility for the safe storage of all cleaning and disposable items when being used

Additional Responsibilities
• Ensure required standards of cleanliness are consistently achieved in line with Targets, Trust policies, method statements and cleaning schedules.
• Monitor the quality of work activities undertaken by the designated team using written and IT based system through audit and working with clinical and infection control staff
• Report any faults (maintenance or other) using appropriate systems and check they are addressed
• Undertake high level cleaning/specialist tasks e.g. infection clean / deep clean
• Liaise with Domestic Supervisor to submit orders for Supplies and stores
• Liaise with Domestic Supervisor to submit orders for Supplies and stores
• Completion of COSSH/Risk assessments as instructed.
• To operate mechanical equipment i.e. floor machines, sucking up machines, vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, steam cleaner.

Cleaning Standards
• To clean in accordance with the National Cleaning Standards.
• To use cleaning products and materials, ensuring the correct product and dilatation as specified in the training manual and the COSHH guidelines within the Domestic Services Room.
• To use the industrial cleaning equipment taking the correct precautions to minimize any associated risks as specified in the training manual

Infection Cleans
• To undertake isolation cleaning when required following correct procedures.
• To check isolation before putting the procedure into operation.
• To report to the nurse in charge to receive any special instructions and then follow isolation procedure has detailed within the method statement.

SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT
• To ensure the correct use of equipment following safety guidelines.
• To refer to COSHH regulations when using cleaning materials.
• To ensure the correct cleaning of equipment.
• To report any faulty equipment to the Domestic Supervisor.
• To be responsible for emptying and replacing vacuum bags.
• To be responsible for the daily cleaning of equipment.

SECTION 2 - KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Knowledge of National Cleaning Standards
• Knowledge of Health and Safety
• Knowledge of COSHH
• Knowledge of Infection Prevention practices
• Work in accordance with Domestic and Trust Policies and Procedures.
• Work on own initiative within well established procedures and practices, works with little supervision, refers to Supervisor when necessary.
• Can propose changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.
• Will work largely unsupervised on a daily basis, but will know when to seek supervision and further assistance if necessary.
• Respond to ward/department activity on required delivery of work schedules. This requires a degree of planning and prioritising own workload.
• Balance/prioritise heavy workload whilst working within strict timescales
• Attend mandatory Training
• A working knowledge of all industrial cleaning equipment used within the department
• Good communication skills and helpful manner and communicate sensitively when patients/relatives make enquiries

SECTION 3 - EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT:
• Frequently required to exert moderate physical effort for short periods of time by lifting equipment and disposable stores, e.g. carrying mop buckets filled with water, making and stripping beds.
• Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Requires a high level of concentration for sustained periods, including responding to unpredictable work patterns, interruptions and the need to meet deadlines.
• Ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies
• Required to work directly or exposed to infectious materials
• Moderate bending and stooping will be required when cleaning equipment, fixtures and fittings, floors and equipment, emptying vacuum bags and making beds.
• Frequent exposure to dirt, dust and bodily fluids.
• Washing and polishing
• Required to reach above hand height to clean walls and tiles etc.
• Climbing ladders
• To undertake domestic duties with daily exposure to distressing and emotional circumstances, e.g. dying patients, deaths, ill patients etc.
• Ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies

• Ensure full uniform and PPE (as required) is worn at all times
• Ensure personal appearance is clean and smart at all times
