We are seeking to recruit a proactive and motivated individual to join a team whose focus is on assisting people experiencing homelessness to resolve their housing difficulties through the provision of high quality assistance and statutory advice.
About you:
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, person centred individual, preferably with experience of the Housing Act 1996 and HRA 2017, who can assist people under the threat of homelessness or already homeless. The successful candidate will be required to complete both phone and face to face assessments of the applicants needs and be confident in working with wider services to ensure the best outcome for the customer. Candidates should be able to consider and effectively communicate housing legislation decisions alongside pro-active interventions in order to provide housing advice and support within the legal framework of the Housing Act 1996 and related guidance. Ideally candidates should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the benefits system, safeguarding protocols, have consideration to equality and diversity and have experience in working with vulnerable clients. While caseworkers are well supported by team leaders, candidates should be decisive and able to manage their time and caseload effectively in what can be a pressurised environment.
About the role:
This role can be extremely rewarding and our focus is on positive outcomes where possible within legislation. As a Housing Caseworker you will carry a caseload of clients and administer Exeter City Council's statutory duties in relation to these cases. This role will focus on delivering the statutory service with a trauma informed, holistic approach to people that are vulnerably housed or homeless, including those that are street homeless, and will include liaison with multiple agencies including but not prohibited to Social Services, Probation, Mental Health, Prison and Drug Services. This is a fixed term 12 month contract.
About the team:
This role will sit within the wider Housing Needs department which provides a range of housing and homelessness related services principally in housing advice and assistance, homelessness prevention and relief, the provision of interim accommodation, support in accessing private rented housing, signposting and referral to supported accommodation and treatment services and managing access to Exeter’s social housing register. The team are based within the Civic Centre with the ability to work from home on specific days and some requirement to visit applicants in various accommodation or partner agency settings. The current team are enthusiastic, forward thinking and work flexibly within legislation to achieve positive outcomes for the customers.
