We are pleased to share details of a permanent opportunity for an experienced Backup & Restore specialist to join our dedicated IT Operations team in Digital & Technology Services.

As an IT Operations Support Engineer specialising in backup & restore you will work alongside an established IT Operations team, supporting on- premise and cloud based services for our UK, China and Malaysia campuses. You will work within the Enterprise Operations Team to maintain availability and quality of central systems and services for the university. This includes monitoring central IT systems and services, providing first line, second line and third line (as appropriate) support in the event of systems failing in order to being them back online as soon as possible.

You will play a key role within infrastructure and change teams acting as subject matter expert for backup and restore. You will act as the primary service owner for the service, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose, appropriately patched, aligned with strategic roadmaps and delivered to agreed SLAs/KPIs. Working closely with other DTS teams, you will take a lead planning maintenance and upgrades and will play a key role in business continuity and major incident / problem resolution when required.

Your background will include a proven track record in backup and restore technologies, VEEAM and SQL database administration, as well as the maintenance of virtual and physical tape libraries, storage and servers. Ideally, you will have worked within a large, multi-technology network environment, supporting both on-premise and cloud based services. You will also have experience of monitoring systems to manage performance and network security.

As the successful candidate, you will have a degree/professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience and be a motivated self-starter, ideally with experience of ITIL and supporting change within a complex IT environment.
