An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the corporate nursing team at St Georges Hospital in London. This new Matron post in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) will support the site Nurse Consultant in IPC to deliver the trusts IPC strategy.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who will be responsible for providing and supporting infection prevention and control leadership across the Trust, setting and auditing standards of infection prevention and control, ensuring that they are evidence based and reflect best practice.

They will support effective management of the Infection Prevention and Control Team with an enabling style of leadership, delivering an IPC service to the Trust (across all sites), thereby reducing the incidence of healthcare associated infections.
• Close working with the infection control team at Epsom and St Helier to provide collaboration and shared practice.
• Ensures the IPC Team is able to respond to the demands of the IPC agenda.
• Acts as a catalyst for broader systems change.
• Self-directs and modifies theory to practice implementation.
• Improves practice and health outcomes so that they are consistent with regional and national standards, by the management and facilitation of change.
• Promotes St George’s as a centre of excellence for, amongst others, the management of hospital acquired infection and prevention.
• Identifies opportunities to reduce harm and improve the patient experience through the work of the team.

The Matron in Infection Prevention and Control will support the IPC Nurse Consultant in the provision of senior operational support for the Infection Prevention and Control agenda across the Trust, working closely with IPC Group colleagues and the divisional teams, creating workable solutions, and providing highly expert advice.

The post holder will be a clinical expert in the specialist field of Infection Prevention and Control, practicing at an advanced clinical level and exercising high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care.

The post holder will act as an expert resource both internally to the Trust and externally in the field of infection prevention and control. S/he will support the management of the Infection Prevention and Control Service, leading the delivery of the professional practice agenda, ensuring that the Trust achieves both internal and external key performance indicators and targets.

The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, monitoring and improving standards of care through assessment of practice, clinical audit, disseminating research, teaching and supporting professional colleagues, and in the provision of skilled professional leadership.

This role will work with St George’s clinical and non-clinical colleagues to deliver the Group IPC Strategy at site.
