Depute Head Teacher- Fixed term until 4/4/2025
Ferryhill Primary School

Salary: £66,072 per year
Hours: 35 per week

Ferryhill Primary School serves the catchment areas of Drylaw and Telford in North West Edinburgh. We have around 340 children in the primary school divided into a two-class arrangement at each stage. We have 79 full time nursery places for 2–4 year-olds in term time. Support for children and families is provided in conjunction with our partnerships from a wide range of local agencies.

Ferryhill Primary School is part of the Broughton High School Learning Community, alongside Stockbridge Primary School, Granton Primary School and Flora Stevenson Primary School. We are fortunate to enjoy extensive grounds including a playing field and forest areas. Using our grounds for outdoor education is an important part of our provision. We have a new, purpose-built nursery building and separate halls for dining, assembly and PE in the main building. We currently have a library/teaching space and a separate ICT Suite. Our main priorities for the year ahead include further promoting the principles of a nurturing school, improving attendance, and continuing to improve levels of attainment in literacy and numeracy.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a temporary Depute Head Teacher to join our team. Our current leadership team consists of the Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers, a Principal Teacher and a Business Manager.

The successful candidate will:

• support the leadership and management of the Early Years, which includes the Nursery and P1/P2 teams, so they can develop, thrive and deliver outstanding care to all children in the setting
• have a sound knowledge of early years pedagogy and child development and will provide support to staff to develop play pedagogy throughout the school
• be an excellent communicator and able to build relationships and work in partnership with families and external agencies on the progress and outcomes of the children
• Develop parent partnerships across the school
• Role model and mentor the early years team to ensure the highest quality early childhood practice and experience for all children, including children with special education needs and/or disabilities
• Establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to teaching and learning and ensure a culture and ethos of challenge and support where all pupils can have a voice, achieve success and become highly engaged in their own learning
• Develop work in pupil voice and pupil leadership groups across the school
• Work within the SLT to facilitate improvements in attainment, attendance and equity

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
