The post-holder is responsible on a rotational basis for the operation of the Andrology laboratory and the supervision of advanced associate practitioners, associate practitioners, and biomedical support workers. The post-holder has responsibility for ensuring the timely processing of samples alongside quality management system activities within their remit.

The post-holder is expected to apply specialist scientific knowledge, skill and expertise at the required professional level for the full range of Andrology procedures, providing a high-quality service to patients. This level of responsibility is particularly important in Andrology where decisions may be made independently without the opportunity to refer to more senior staff.

This post has direct clinical responsibilities for patient care through the provision of diagnostic services. The post-holder is expected to be involved in appropriate research.

The Department of Reproductive Medicine is regulated and licenced by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) enabling them to cryopreserve sperm and use sperm preparations in assisted reproductive treatments. The post holder is expected to process these samples.

The UK National External Quality Assessment Schemes (UK NEQAS) for Reproductive Science are also operated from this laboratory. Selection and preparation of samples for distribution to participants are part of this job.

The main duties of the job are outlined in the job description and person specification. Please ensure you have read these to understand the role and key relationships within the Department of Reproductive Medicine.
