An exciting opportunity has arisen forHealth Care Assistantsin The Acute Cardiac Care Unit atHarefieldHospital. We are currently one of the UKs largest and most experienced cardio-thoracic centres providing care for a variety of complex patients.

ACCU is a 40 bedded unit providing in patient and day case care to patients undergoing a variety of cardiology interventions. We have a renowned primary PCI service which generates approx 80-100 emergency admissions per month and we care for level 1 and level 2 patients on the ward.

We are seeking enthusiastic and caring individuals, who would enjoy the challenge of working as a health care assistant. The role is to provide support to the trained nurses in caring for their patients including mobilisation, personal care, patient observations, bed space preparation and restocking of equipment.

This role involves shift work with nights and weekend work incorporated into your rota.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to develop their interpersonal, communication and caring skills. Successful applicants will have a period of supernumerary time on appointment and be supported by one of our current health care assistants. A range of training and development opportunities will be available in house. There will be opportunity to undertake Care Certificate training, this has to be completed within 6 months of starting employment and will provide career progression to a Band 3 once you have received your certificate.

To support the training of more junior staff e.g. housekeepers and domestic staff.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.

Work as a team member. Participate in and contribute to departmental meetings.

Understand all aspects of scope decontamination and handling including maintenance and documentation audit trail.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

Communication
• Demonstrate a courteous and helpful approach to patients, relatives and visitors in the clinical area.
• Carry out assigned clerical and administrative tasks as delegated by a Registered Nurse
• Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)
• Carry out delegated tasks in delivering and supporting direct patient care as directed by a Registered Nurse.
• Ensure patient dignity is always maintained.
• Keep clinical areas clean and tidy and maintain a safe, pleasant environment.
• Assist in the restocking of supplies and maintenance of equipment as directed by a registered nurse.
• Check that deliveries from Suppliers are correct as per accompanying delivery note.
• Adhere to departmental and Directorate procedures for the use of supplies and equipment in order to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.
• Maintain stock rooms in an efficient manner, for example rotating stock, periodic stock taking, safe storage, monitoring expiry dates along with housekeepers.
• Be aware of and adhere to the Trust and local Policies and Procedures.
• Provide cover for the unit housekeeper when required
• Be mindful of patient’s personal belongings and their safe keeping in accordance with the Trust’s patient property policy.
• Be IT literate and able to use electronic patient record system.
