An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist with a real interest in working with children and young people (5-18yrs) with a diagnosed learning disability and mental health difficulties to join our friendly and supportive team .
You will have current experience of working as a speech and language therapist with children in a community health setting as the role includes seeing them in clinic and also in the community both at home and in their education settings.
To be committed to reducing the impact of learning difficulties and mental health needs on the child/young person's peer and family relationships.
We cover a large area of Norfolk so it is essential you are able to drive and have access to be a vehicle.
• To provide high quality support, assessment and advice to children and young people with significant learning disabilities and their families, under the support of Senior Clinicians in the team.
• To provide a range of clinical expertise and design ongoing assessment and interventions under the direction of the Senior Clinicians in the team to meet the child’s changing developmental needs.
• To work as part of a multi-disciplinary Team to ensure multi-professional patient care for children and young people.
• To be committed to reducing the impact of learning disabilities and mental health on the child/ young person’s peer and family relationships.
• Mentoring new colleagues and students in the assessment and intervention support of children and young people open to the service.
• Safeguarding and other relevant associated skills on review and agreement at PDR.

• To carry out the assessment and clinical interventions to children and young people who have significant learning disabilities and mental health difficulties.
• Provide a range of clinical expertise and design appropriate, evidence-based interventions to meet the children and young people’s developing needs.
• To be named clinician for children and young people as allocated, under regular recorded supervision.
• Work collaboratively with other health professionals in the multi-agency team.
• Appraisal of junior staff.
Clinical
• Be professional and legally accountable for all clinical decisions and professional actions and to ensure that work is within professional standards, clinical guidelines and in line with evidence-based practice.
• Use effective communication skills based on valuing others, recognising own and other’s strengths and differences.
• Provide assessment and clearly planned intervention.
• Devise, monitor and evaluate the implantation of the intervention.
• Ability to utilise an enabling and therapeutic approach with children and young people together with their families and carers.
• Assess and plan enabling outcome focussed clinical interventions with children, young people, and their families/carers, under the supervision of the Senior Clinicians.
• Monitor and report to Senior Clinicians care offered to agreed outcome measures.
• Effectively engage in group work activities with colleagues.
• Act as named clinician to children and young people supervised by Senior Clinicians. To be supported in developing to become an autonomous practitioner.
• Use effective and standardised assessment tools.
• Practice in an enabling and facilitative manner that aims high by drawing on strengths whilst recognising and working with stakeholders to minimise and overcome or adapt to environmental constraints.
• Be sensitive to and validatory of, social and cultural difference whilst maintaining a child focused approach.
• To identify the need for second opinions. Referring to senior colleagues as appropriate.
• Keep timely, concise, and accurate records, maintaining confidentiality.
• Participate in individual or group work with children and young people, adapting resource packages to meet specific needs.
• Engage in play with children and young people.
• Apply evidence-based knowledge to specific situations supported by effective case supervision.
• Adapting standardised methodology to meet individual need, carefully analysing situations that arise in light of previous experience and best practice.
• Person to person contact with children, young people and their family/carers on a regular basis.
• To report safeguarding concerns to Senior clinicians and follow NCH&C Safeguarding Policy.
• Ability to work in a team and to play an active part within the integrated team role, participating in case discussions, peer supervision and team meetings.
• To develop resources to meet the young persons requirements as well as for team use. To work in a variety of settings including family home, school, clinic and care homes
• Able to undertake lone working, adhering to NCHC policy and local procedures.
Professional
• Identify and request sufficient time to continue professional development.
• Use supervision to ensure that care offered to children/young people is safe and needs focused, drawing on current evidence based best practice.
• Actively engage in monthly peer support meetings.
• Keep up to date regarding current practice and policy developments.
• Participate in research as allocated by Clinical Lead following NCH&C guidelines and policies.
• Maintain registered membership of The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and HCPC
Organisational
• Collaborative working with inter-disciplinary and multi-agency partners.
• Mentor & report to Senior clinicians the progress of student nurses as allocated.
• Manage diary effectively to maximise clinical/development/travelling time to cover large mixed rural and urban populations.
• Report workload pressures appropriately.
• Be aware of and responsive to, issues of potential and actual risk that may arise in carrying out care, reporting promptly using recognised NCH&C systems.
• Participate in service development work as directed by Clinical Lead utilising own strengths and areas of professional interest/specialism.
• Engage with Mobile working.
• Engage with SystmOne optimisation.
• Engage with referral to discharge process.
• Be aware of the demand and capacity model which will reflect workload needs at any given time.
