Full-Time Equine Veterinary Surgeon – Jersey, Channel Islands
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 (dependent on experience)
4-Day Week | Supportive Team | Stunning Island Location

An independent equine veterinary practice in Jersey, Channel Islands is seeking a dedicated and experienced Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity ideally suited to a vet with 2+ years of post-qualification experience who is passionate about first opinion equine work and building strong client relationships.

Established in 2022, the practice has quickly developed a loyal client base and reputation for delivering high-quality, personalised veterinary care. With a second vet joining in 2024, the team continues to expand and is now looking for a like-minded colleague to contribute to its ongoing success.

The Role

This position offers a varied and rewarding caseload, working with a diverse range of horses including leisure horses, donkeys, racehorses, and high-level performance horses. The role is particularly suited to a vet with a strong interest in lameness and poor performance investigations.

Please note: This practice does not provide routine dentistry services, so candidates with a primary interest in equine dentistry may find this role less suitable.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality first opinion equine veterinary care
• Conduct lameness examinations and poor performance investigations
• Provide emergency and routine veterinary services
• Build and maintain strong client relationships
• Work collaboratively within a small, supportive team

Services Provided

• Diagnostic imaging (digital radiography and ultrasound on-site)
• 24-hour emergency cover
• Health checks and preventative care
• Lameness evaluation and investigation
• Poor performance workups
• Pre-purchase examinations (vettings)
• Passports and microchipping
• Sedation for routine procedures (e.g. clipping/farrier)
• Minor surgical procedures (including gelding and sarcoid removal)
• Vaccinations and tailored worming programmes (including worm egg counts)

Working Pattern

• 4-day working week
• 1 in 3 out-of-hours rota (quiet workload compared to UK mainland)
• Short travel distances due to the island’s size (approx. 9 x 5 miles)

About the Practice

This is the first and only dedicated equine veterinary practice in the Channel Islands, based in St Martin, Jersey. The practice prides itself on combining high clinical standards with a friendly, independent practice ethos, offering a personalised service to its clients.

Location Benefits

Jersey offers an exceptional quality of life, with beautiful beaches, coastal walks, and a wide range of outdoor activities. This is a rare opportunity to live and work in a unique and scenic environment while maintaining a fulfilling veterinary career.

Salary & Benefits

• £50,000 – £65,000 depending on experience
• Benefits package tailored to the successful candidate (discussed at interview stage)
