Job Title: Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to support the Designated Safeguarding Lead in ensuring effective safeguarding and child protection arrangements. The successful candidate will help promote a safe environment, respond to concerns, and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed consistently.
Key Responsibilities
Support the DSL in managing safeguarding and child protection concerns
Act as safeguarding contact in the absence of the DSL
Receive, record, and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with procedures
Escalate concerns to the DSL and external agencies where appropriate
Monitor and support vulnerable students, including those with SEN or additional needs
Provide safeguarding guidance to staff and reinforce reporting processes
Assist with liaison with external professionals and attend meetings when required
Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records
Support implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Essential Criteria
Experience working with children or young people
Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable Criteria
Previous experience in a safeguarding or pastoral role
Experience supporting students with SEN or additional needs
Knowledge of current safeguarding guidance and procedures
Experience working with external agencies

This role involves responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undergo safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
