An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Illustrator to join the Medical Illustration team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust on a10-month fixed-term maternity cover contract. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive, high-quality Medical Illustration service, supporting clinical photography, graphic design, and video production across the Trust.

The role involves undertaking clinical photography of patients in a variety of settings, including the studio, wards, and other clinical environments, ensuring patient dignity, consent, and confidentiality are maintained at all times. In addition, the post holder will produce graphic design and video content to support patient care, research, education, and corporate communications.

The team currently consists of a Medical Illustration Manager and a Band 5 Medical Illustrator. The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, adapting to the needs of the service.

The main base will be the Medical Illustration Department at Frimley Park Hospital, with regular travel required to Farnham Hospital.

Practice in accordance with the Academy for Healthcare Science’s Standards of Proficiency for Registered Medical Illustrators, the Institute of Medical Illustrators’ Code of Professional Conduct, and relevant local Trust policies and standard operating procedures.

Manage the clinical photographic studio and associated services across multiple hospital sites, working independently without direct supervision.

Deliver high-quality clinical photographic and video records that meet professional, technical, and clinical standards.

Develop, implement, and maintain administrative and technical quality assurance standards and protocols, including the use of standardised photographic techniques.

Manage own photographic workload, including prioritisation, allocation of tasks, and setting of targets to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services.

Assess, interpret, and respond to clinical and departmental photographic requests, advising service users where appropriate and contributing to the optimisation of departmental workflows.

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues relating to equipment, imaging systems, and photographic processes.

Undertake clinical photography and video recording across all Trust areas, including wards, theatres, A&E, mortuary, and other clinical environments, ensuring adherence to consent, confidentiality, and infection control procedures.
