We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-looking Band 6 Specialist Audiologist / Clinical Scientist (Audiology) to join our expanding Audiology Service at Oxford University Hospitals, one of the UK’s largest teaching hospitals. We provide a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service for patients with hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders, are a centre for paediatric audiology and have a busy Auditory Implant Programme. This would be an exciting time to join the service as we are expanding both our estates and workforce, including provision of a new paediatric audiology facility in Banbury.

This important role spans both adult and paediatric audiology services and the ratio of the two can be flexible depending on the experience, interests and expertise of the post holder, within the constraints of fulfilling our service needs.

The adult aspect of the role is primarily concerned with providing a diagnostic and hearing aid rehabilitation service for adults with hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis, including non-routine patients and those with additional / complex needs. There are opportunities to be involved in specialist services including tinnitus and hearing therapy, and support for neuro-otology and neurofibromatosis type-2 clinics. The paediatric aspect will involve both routine and non-routine hearing assessments and hearing aid provision in children of all ages. Some routine support of ENT clinics is also expected. Full training will be provided where required. You will be involved in supervising audiologists in training and we look forward to you contributing to service development.

OUH provides a comprehensive paediatric audiology service including assessing babies referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme, the behavioural and objective assessment of children of all ages and the habilitation of children with hearing loss. The focus of our adult audiology service is on the management of hearing loss in adults on our complex hearing loss pathway. Our auditory implant programme sits alongside both of these services, enabling a seamless rehabilitative pathway for patients of all ages.

You would be joining a large team comprising Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists, Clinical Scientists (Audiology), Hearing Therapists and administrative colleagues. The service is actively involved in training and has PTP and STP trainees. There is also an in-house CPD programme with designated Training Lead, and all colleagues are encouraged to take advantage of training and development opportunities within the Trust and beyond. All members of the team are involved in service development as we work towards IQIPS accreditation.

You will be an Audiologist or Clinical Scientist (Audiology) with a BSc, PTP, STP or MSc in Audiology andmustbe registered with AHCS as an Audiologist or with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist. Ideally you will have previous NHS experience in both adult and paediatric audiology. You will require excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and be a team player.

You will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and may be required to undertake clinics at a variety of locations around the county including in Banbury, Brackley, Witney and Didcot. The department offers flexible working arrangements.

Although the post is funded at 37.5 hrs/week, part time applicants (minimum 15 hrs/week) are encouraged to apply or to contact us for an informal discussion.
