We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our Public Health Substance Use Team, with a background in substance use and/or housing. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and delivering a whole‑system approach to substance use, working across a wide range of partners to improve outcomes for residents.
You will support the strategic development, commissioning and delivery of priorities from Derbyshire’s Housing Support Grant application, working closely with colleagues across public health, housing, adult social care, health, criminal justice, recovery services and the voluntary and community sector. The role requires strong partnership working skills and the ability to bring together different organisations around shared priorities.
You will have experience working in substance use and/or housing, or a closely related field, and a strong understanding of the complex issues facing people affected by drug and alcohol use.
You will be:
Excellent at partnership working and able to build and maintain effective relationships across multiple organisations and sectors
Confident working with commissioned providers and supporting commissioning processes
Comfortable working at a strategic level while also supporting practical delivery
Essential criteria:
Experience working in substance use and/or housing, public health, or a related area
Strong partnership working experience across statutory, voluntary and community sectors
Experience supporting or contributing to commissioning, service development or contract management
Ability to communicate complex issues clearly to a range of audiences
The Job and Person Specification contains full details of the skills and experience you need to have for the role.
In return for your commitment, we offer you:
27 days of annual leave (rising to 32 days after 5 years continuous service) plus 8 bank holidays
Good work/life balance including Flexi time, allowing up to an additional 2 days of leave per month
Training and development opportunities
Mentoring
A supportive team environment
Generous local government pension scheme
Access to a comprehensive wellbeing package
Cycle to work scheme
Electric/Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme: Encouraging environmentally friendly commuting options. (Terms and conditions apply)
Discounts at selected county leisure centres
and much more!
A postgraduate qualification in Public Health is a desirable element of this role, so contact Rosalie.weetman@derbyshire.gov.uk if you would like to find out more.
Provisional Interview Date: 20th May 2026
