Summary

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic experienced individual to join our team on a fixed term basis as a rotational Health Care Assistant in John Hunter Clinic for Sexual Health and Kobler HIV outpatients’ clinic for a 12-months fixed term contract.

We are looking for applicants who are currently working clinically and skills in phlebotomy are desirable.
You will be fully trained in all our core competencies relevant to HIV and sexual health.

You should be motivated, enthusiastic and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients in an innovative sexual health and HIV setting.
You must have a ‘can do ‘attitude and be passionate about providing a high standard of patient care and you will be part of a team of nurses responsible for delivering a high standard of patient care at all times.

· Work as part of a designated clinical team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the patient.

· Contribute to the planning of care delivery in association with the RegisteredNurse.

· Contribute to on-going assessments recognising when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment andaction.

· Demonstrate the ability to recognise the deteriorating patient or other situations that require escalation to the appropriate professional for expert help andadvice.

· Implement and evaluate individual care / treatmentplans.

· Improve the quality of care by contributing to the continuous monitoring of patientscare.

· Accept delegated responsibility from the Registered Nurse to monitor individual plans of care to meet the immediate and on-going needs ofpatients.

· Undertake a range of agreed clinical skills once trained and deemed competent including:

• Venepuncture and phlebotomy skills includingHIV Point of Care Testing

• Urinalysis

• Pregnancy testing

• Taking patient observations and measurements including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight as required

• Staining and reading microscopy slides

• Managing and processing specimens

• Chaperoning and assisting clinicians with examination and procedures for male and female patients

• Care of HIV outpatients including blood taking, recording vital signs and physical details.

• Completing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis follow up consultations

• Be competent in giving Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines according to existing Trust SOP and national guidelines

• Administer medications in line with trusts medicine management policy under PSD

• Demonstrate the ability to recognise the effects of medicines, side effects, drug sensitivity, contraindications adverse reactions and allergies.

· Responsible for contributing to the clinical environment which promotes a positive patient experience and care, promoting privacy and dignity at alltimes.

· Educate patients and families about sexual health & HIV related illness, conditions and medication under the direct / indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse.

· Understand the roles of a range of professionals and carers from other organisations and settings who may be participating in the care of a patient and theirfamily.
