Summary
Due to career development of our existing staff and developments within our services we have opportunity for a substantive band 6 Occupational Therapist within our department. We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist or Band 5 ready to progress to Band 6 to join our team and help us to ensure that we meet the Trust’s vision to provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most.
The Band 6 rotation provides an excellent opportunity for occupational therapists to continue broadening their skills and to develop greater knowledge & skill sharing across teams. Each rotation is 8 months long and there will be the opportunity to rotate through all areas. The Band 6 rotation currently incorporates Neurosciences, Acute Medical Unit, Priority Assessment Unit, General Medicine, Older Peoples Medicine, Oncology, Home-First Discharge to Assess Team and Orthopedics.
The Occupational Therapy service at NNUH has over 90 members of staff committed to providing a high- quality patient care across all specialisms. We have a dynamic working environment where two days are never the same. There is the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals, requiring the many areas of occupational therapy, skills and knowledge in order to have a positive impact at a time when it is needed most.
As an autonomous practitioner, you will:
• provide a flexible and comprehensive service to a designated area
• independently carry out specialised assessment and appropriate intervention for patients with complex needs incorporating physical, personal and psychological needs in relation to self-care, leisure and productivity
• assess risks relating to the discharge process to ensure a safe and timely discharge of patients to the most appropriate setting
• provide advice and information to patients/carers including instruction and training regarding use of equipment issued
• carry out day to day supervision of qualified and unqualified staff
You will have:
· Exposure to and the opportunity to manage a diverse caseload across various specialisms with the support and training to develop and embed expertise.
· Access to regular and culturally embedded supervision with more experienced members of the therapy team, as well as very close working and learning links with the wider department.
· The opportunity to work across a variety of in- patient areas and into the community as part of a broad and diverse rotation.
Full time: 37.5 hrs per week

Clinical
1. To maintain a high standard of professional practice, working within the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
2. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your own work including accountability for the management of patients in your care as an autonomous practitioner
3. To have knowledge of evidence as a base for practice, participate in service / multidisciplinary audit and research within the clinical area and use knowledge gained to achieve optimum outcomes for Occupational Therapy.
4. To prioritise own caseload
5. To independently carry out specialised assessment and appropriate intervention for patients with complex needs incorporating personal, psychological and spiritual needs in relation to self-care, leisure and productivity.
