Your responsibilities

We are looking for an ambitious, reflective and talented person who can help us to develop the quality of teaching at King Edward VI School and ensure an even better learning experience for our students.

What you will need

We are seeking to appoint a person who:

• is passionate about Philosophy and Ethics and is able to inspire our students with a similar love for the subject
• is committed to comprehensive education, and to improving outcomes for young people
• can work effectively as part of a team, and make a positive contribution to our ethos and values

About us

King Edward VI CEVC School is a successful, oversubscribed 11-16 school with 1200 students on roll. We are situated in the historic town of Bury St Edmunds (‘the jewel in the crown of Suffolk’), surrounded by beautiful countryside – just over an hour by train to London, and close links to the A14.

King Edward VI Church of England Voluntary School is one of the oldest church schools in the country. It is also one of only two state schools attached to a cathedral. With a highly diverse and comprehensive intake, this job provides a unique opportunity for someone with a passion for excellence in the classroom and a commitment to Christian life, to bring this important subject alive to young people. Such an individual could make a big difference to the lives of the children within our school (many from deprived backgrounds) and the wider Bury St Edmunds Christian Community. They would be expected to teach within the context of liberal Church of England values. The school has four Foundation governors appointed by the Cathedral, including the Dean.

What we will offer you

The opportunity to work with a supportive team of colleagues with a focus on putting our students at the centre of everything we do.
