An established, specialist engineering and manufacturing business based in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex is seeking a Production and Materials Planner to join its operations team.
This is a high-precision, low-volume manufacturing environment supporting advanced technologies used globally across scientific and industrial applications.
You’ll be joining a collaborative, technically focused team where planning, purchasing, coordination, and material flow are critical to delivering high-quality products on time.
The Production and Materials Planner Role
This Production and Materials Planner position is a key role within the operations function. You will take ownership of production planning, materials coordination, purchasing and stock control therefore ensuring smooth operational flow and on-time delivery.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing planning, purchasing coordination, and hands-on stock and logistics involvement.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
Develop and maintain short- and medium-term production plans
Balance demand, capacity, and material availability
Manage and communicate Master Production Schedules (MPS)
Planning Execution & Control
Track production progress against plan
Identify risks, delays, and bottlenecks
Work with internal teams to implement corrective actions
Materials & Purchasing Coordination
Support purchasing activities in line with production plans while working with the buyer
Monitor supplier performance and material availability
Expedite orders and mitigate supply risks
Stock Control & Inventory
Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy
Support goods-in, goods-out, and stock movements
Conduct cycle counts and stock reconciliation
Shipping & Logistics
Coordinate shipments to customers
Ensure compliance with export and documentation requirements
Manage packing and dispatch processes
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Produce operational reports and KPIs
Provide insight into delivery performance and stock levels
Identify and implement process improvements
Skills & Experience required for this Production and Materials Planner job
Essential
Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Good numeracy and analytical ability
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Desirable
Experience using ERP/MRP systems
Understanding of production planning or supply chain processes
Exposure to purchasing, stock control, or logistics
