SEMH Classroom Teacher - Alternative Provision
Location: Bristol
Pay: £168 to £232 per day
Hours: 8:30am to 4:00pm
Requirements: QTS required, SEMH/SEN experience helpful but not essential

Looking to teach in a setting where relationships matter just as much as the lesson plan?

We're working with a small and supportive Alternative Provision in Bristol that is looking for a general classroom teacher to work with pupils who need a different approach to learning. The school supports both primary and secondary aged students, many of whom have SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

Classes are small, typically 4 to 8 pupils, which means you can really focus on building trust, creating routines, and helping students reconnect with education.

This role would suit a teacher who is calm, flexible, and creative in their approach, someone who enjoys thinking outside the box and understands that progress doesn't always look the same for every learner.

• Acting as a general classroom teacher, delivering lessons across a broad curriculum
• Teaching small groups of 4 to 8 pupils with varied academic abilities
• Planning and adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs
• Building positive routines and strong relationships with students
• Working closely with a dedicated pastoral and behaviour support team
• Supporting pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education to re-engage with learning

This is a nurturing and well-supported setting where staff work closely together to give pupils the stability and encouragement they need to succeed. Behaviour support is strong, and teachers are never expected to manage challenging situations alone.

Many teachers who join this setting enjoy the freedom to be creative with the curriculum, focusing on engagement, confidence building, and life skills alongside academic progress.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• A calm, resilient approach in the classroom
• Strong relationship-building skills with young people
• Flexibility and creativity when adapting lessons
• Someone who wants to make a real difference in an SEMH environment

SEMH experience isn't essential. What matters most is the right mindset, patience, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed.
