A Vacancy at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.

The post is a new post as part of the transition of CYP LD services to the children’s directorate. This has enabled closer working with colleagues in CAMHS, paediatrics and the neurodevelopment team. The team is multidisciplinary and has built a tradition of working with a collaborative and open multi-disciplinary focus. The disciplines represented include medical, nursing, clinical psychology, child psychotherapy, family therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and music therapy. Trainees from psychiatry, psychology and nursing undertake placements within the service and there is involvement in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.

The post-holder will be expected to support the consultant psychiatrist in the assessment and management of patients with moderate to severe learning disabilities. The post-holder will be expected to carry out a full medical assessment, perform a mental state examination and perform a physical examination when appropriate. Management will include both pharmacological and psychological treatments and will involve close working in a multidisciplinary team.

The post-holder will conduct, and regularly review, assessments of risk with patients and agree management strategies to reduce risks under supervision by the consultant. They will, in conjunction with supporting medical and other staff, ensure regular effective review of the care of patients – via individual assessments, MDT review meetings and CPA reviews.

The post-holder will communicate and liaise with relatives and carers and other disciplines and agencies, including general practitioners, as appropriate. The post may also include liaison with other trusts regarding individual patient care.
