The post holder will: Maintain, develop and document vaccine and hepatitis surveillance systems including databases for each area of responsibility in collaboration withConsultant Epidemiologists, Clinical Scientists, Reference laboratory staff, and Health Protection Teams (HPTs) where appropriate. The main area of focus willbe the enhanced surveillance of hepatitis A. Current applications include UKHSAs Case and Incident management System (CIMS), Second GenerationSurveillance System (SGSS), MOLIS, Hummingbird for querying Statutory Notifications of Infectious Diseases , MS Access, MS Excel and MS Teams. Support outbreak response for hepatitis and vaccine preventable diseases, including developing outbreak databases, providing epidemiological summaries, contributing to situation reports (Sitreps) / outbreak reports, monitoring provider demand for vaccines not centrally procured or supplied, and trackingimplementation of control measures. Data processing. Create and update queries and data validation checks for the removal of duplicate records, data formatting and ensuring completeness ofdata. Extraction of data for inclusion in routine reports (eg quarterly and annual Health Protection Reports) and requests for information such as Parliamentaryquestions. Data analysis will include using CIMS, Second Generation Surveillance System (SGSS), MOLIS, Access, STATA, and Excel applications. Liaise with stakeholder staff providing surveillance data (HPTs, reference and routine laboratories providing data for hepatitis) Liaise with clinicians, laboratories and HPTs regarding individual cases and outbreaks (above mentioned infection) Ensure all appropriate information released from each area of responsibility is up to date and informative. Run regular queries on a wide range of databases to prepare quarterly surveillance reports, annual reports, and work-books as appropriate. Staff supervision responsibilities for an information officer, assist with appropriate ad hoc queries, data collection, processing and validations and otherinformation requests To assist the Information Officer with the preparation of appropriate annual data sets for international organisations eg. World Health Organization (WHO) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Contribute to papers for scientific journals and reports for the Department of Health and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, andnational hepatitis strategic and operational groups, upon request Present surveillance data and study results at in-house and national meetings/conferences, and attend national meetings/conferences as appropriate Provide database support for other infectious disease surveillance projects Monitor UKHSAs hepatitis webpages and produce items to be added to the hepatitis webpages and liaise with the UKHSA web team with respect toupdating reports, guidance, questionnaires and information pages when required. Essential role criteria (including qualifications, licenses and registrations): Degree in Epidemiology (or equivalent) or significantexperience of working in communicable disease surveillance MSc in Epidemiology or allied discipline, or significant post-graduate experience working in epidemiology orin the field of infectious diseases and their control Knowledge and experience of a statistical software package (R/STATA etc) Data processing skills (e.g. Microsoft Access) High standard of data management, analysis and producing reports Good interpersonal and communication skills Desirable role criteria: Knowledge of infectious disease surveillance Ability to identify and solve practical problems and to work individually and as part of a team Good organisation, prioritisation and time management skills An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships Prepared to work flexibly and to multi-task Selection Process Details This vacancy is using Success Profiles and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience. Location This role is being offered as office/lab based at our Scientific Campus in Colindale. Based at our scientific campus, you will be required to have a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. Salary InformationIf you are successful at interview, and are moving from another government department, NHS, or Local Authority, the relevant starting salary principles for level transfers or promotions will apply. Otherwise, roles are offered at the pay scale minimum for the grade, but in exceptional circumstances there may be flexibility ifyou are able to demonstrate you are already in receipt of an existing, higher salary. Pay increases are through the relevant annual pay award for the role and terms.
