We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

The Regulatory Officer role will be in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) within Batteries WEEE and Shipments, part of Environmental Markets and Regulation.

As a department we ensure that companies are disposing of their waste correctly by enforcing government regulations – ‘right waste, right place’.

You will play a central role in planning, overseeing, and delivering compliance and enforcement work within the WEEE regime, helping to advance a circular economy.

As a Regulatory Officer, you will:

Provide guidance, advice, and support to colleagues in resolving issues.
Support the team in ensuring the delivery of critical statutory activities.
Develop relationships with internal/external colleagues and stakeholders
Answer technical queries; identify problems and develop solutions.
Gather and analyse detailed data to support evidence-led decisions that ensure customers meet their regulatory obligations
Deal with confidential and sensitive information whilst keeping in line with data protection guidelines.
Contribute to the development and improvement of processes, procedures, and operational instructions.
Undertake audit and some enforcement work in the field and/or desk based.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

Batteries, WEEE and Shipments is a supportive and inclusive department that encourages teams’ health, safety, wellbeing, and development. Key areas we regulate are Packaging Waste, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Batteries and International Waste Shipments.

Confidence in handling data and demonstrating close attention to detail.
Managing challenging or contentious conversations while upholding regulations and ensuring compliance.
Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
